In the last few months, I have been in many great world cities and have more to come in the next few weeks. I love it. Cities are vibrant and rich, often forever reinventing themselves. So what makes a great city?  This is what I am pondering and will try and capture with my camera over the next while.

Wandering through Central Park, New York City the other day was such fun. There were artists of every type, runners, lovers, families – the whole spectrum.  This guy was playing an awesome set of drums, out of plastic buckets.

I come to this place (the 9/11 memorial) almost every time I come to New York City.  It always raises so many questions I cannot answer. Every great city is full of history like this. Sometimes happy, but so often a record of tragedy.

But in most great cities there are quaint spots.  New York City is full of nooks and crannies like this cafe under the bridge in Pershing Square, next to Grand Central. The yellow cab trails are intentional. They are one of the great features of NYC, just like the black cabs of London. More cities should use their taxis as a way of creating a unique identity.
