Sunset in Sarasota
Sometimes you have to travel for less than ideal reasons. I am currently in Sarasota for medical treatment. I am renting a small place near the harbor. The place is so small it really makes we want to get out. Also, I am trying to get fit again after all the treatment. Hence I am walking every evening (unless it is raining). As I walk I am recording a range of sunsets.
Sarasota is a gem of a little town. I will try and capture some of the charm of the old city over the next few days. The beaches are gorgeous (if you like beaches). I am not a huge fan of Florida but I really like Sarasota.
The interesting thing here for those who are interested in cameras is that this photo, and others that will appear, are handheld HDR photos using a Sony NEX camera. I couldn’t have done this with my Nikon. I would have needed a tripod. There are 2 reasons for this. 1) Weight: The Nikon and the lenses are HEAVY, so I could not keep steady while taking multiple exposures. 2) Speed: The Sony seems to take the photos so quickly that there is less time for movement which would destroy the shot.
The real neat thing about the Sony is that I don’t mind carrying it wherever I go. This opens up a whole new realm of photography. I will be taking my Nikon kit out less and less from here on out. The amazing thing is that the product development folk at Nikon seem to be completely missing this.
